Erin Dacy

Erin was hired by Channel 31 in 1993 as a reporter and weekend morning anchor. She was then promoted to anchor for the 6:00 a.m. weekday newscasts. Erin has recently accepted a new challenge in anchoring all three evening newscasts ... 5, 6 and 10pm. She has a weekly franchise called Erin Dacy's Follow Up File, which can be seen Monday nights on Channel 31.

Some of the highlights for Erin in 1997 have included coverage of Boeing's announcement to build a rocket facility in Decatur. She anchored our live coverage from Washington D-C. Channel 31 was the only local media representative in Washington for the announcement of Boeing coming to the Tennessee Valley. Erin is also very proud to have been an organizer in a reunion of survivors and plane crash victims of Southern Airways Flight 242. It crashed in Georgia 20 years ago. Many of the people aboard were from the Tennessee Valley. Channel 31 broadcast the April reunion live from New Hope, Georgia with Erin hosting the event. Erin was also assigned to cover Hurricane Danny as it smashed into the Gulf Coast of Alabama last July.

Before working at WAAY-TV, Erin was an anchor and reporter at WCFT-TV in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She's very proud of two associated press awards she won for her work on a documentary and health reporting at WCFT.Her first full-time job in Tuscaloosa in 1991 was a natural transition.She spent three and a half years at the University of Alabama, where she majored in telecommunications and film.Her first year of college was at the University of Texas in San Antonio, in the same city where she was born and raised. Erin credits her discipline in her accomplishments to a 17 year professional ballet career. She says daily rehearsals and training taught her at an early age that nothing worthwhile comes about without a lot of hard work. She also credits her close-knit family to her success.

Erin is married to Ben Boles, also a television professional, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
